Short Film Video Reviews

As part of our reserach, we watched some shot films and created own reviews, both good and bad, of one of the few particualr short films we watched. The films that we chose to review were "Wrongly Accused" and "Just Say Hi!". We based our decisions upon filming techniques that we liked, narrative style and its content, whilst also considering its originality. The videos were sourced from www.virginmediashorts.co.uk

Short Film Idea Mood Board

I've begun some initial planning individually in order to come up with some ideas of how to structure our narrative for the short film and what sort of features to include and what conventions to follow in order to aim it at a particular target audience, whilst also sticking to the typical style of the genres. Whilst also looking at the short film could include, I've considered where the short film could be exhibited and what sort of audience its aimed at as well as their certain interests.

As a group, we've tried to focus on several different areas individually so we can combine our ideas and have a much more effective piece of planning that we can follow, whilst also being more clear on what sort of short film we're trying to create. Links to other group members mood boards:

Initial Short Film Planning

We've begun some initial planning of what sort of short film we want to create by including the requried elemenets of a piece of jewelry and time. In addition, we've also started planning out some particular key scenes and what we can relate the film to and how it can be more related to the genre and theme.

We started with thinking of some existing films that used the concepts of time and fantasy as their main genre ideas. We then moved onto how the use of time is presented with these films and how they can be used to show ideas and themes. We also considered how technology is used and presented as main narrative elements.

Next, we moved onto thinking about what could happen within the narrative and what sort of gnere it could come under based upon our narrative elements. We cosnidered the typical conventions of genres in terms of setting and mis-en-scene, whilst aklso thinking about how props can be sued within the shots.

Finally from the mind mapping we started to produce some potential title ideas for our short film and how they can relate in some way to the genre of the film whilst in addition also thinking abhout how the title could suggest what the filmn is going to be about. We also created a list of rules we had to follow as part of our courseowkr brief but also put down rules that followed the typical genre conventions for a surreal psychologocal film with some horoor elements.

We then moved onto start creating a rough idea for our short films content and main idea/theme behind it. We plotted out some potential scenes from the film so that we had a clearer understanding of what we were trying to create and so we had somethign to refer back to. We also considered how the main ideas we were trying to use such as "mirrors" could be applied to the shot in order to create unique camera angles and effects.

As a reult of our planning, we loooked further into the the state of psychosis and multiple personality disorder in order to see what traits could be represented within the film and how the assigned elements of time and a piece of jewelry could be used to show these. We also though about what cmaera shots could be used to perhaps show a particular personality or mood of the person.
